Top 6 Summer-Proof Mascaras To Try

With temperatures now routinely soaring past the 30s and into the 40s, more than just our resolve is melting.

What do we mean, you ask? Take a quick peek in the mirror. Does it look a bit like you’ve gone 10 rounds in the boxing ring? Yeah, us too. (And if not, then tell us in the comments what your mascara of choice is!).
Summer in the UAE unfortunately means sweat, everywhere – and that includes your eyelids.

We might not be able to stop a sticky back and beading forehead (sorry), but we can help put an end to that unsightly under-eye smudging.

So with no further ado, here are five of the best summer-proof mascaras out there.

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Waterproof

The beauty of this one is all in the big brush – this is my most personal fav. The results are dramatic and will leave you looking like you’re wearing falsies, so this is your go-to mascara for any kinda occassion.

Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara

The clue’s in the name – this gem will have you looking like the love child of Twiggy and a Bratz Doll in a jiffy. The key to keeping your makeup smudge-free is to choose a waterproof formula – you’re guaranteed no transfer, a longer-holding curl, and zero flaking. It got us through Bikram yoga followed by a hearty swim without looking like an extra from Kung Fu Panda.

Dior Diorshow Black Out Waterproof Mascara

The beauty of this one is all in the big brush – it adds heaps of length and separation but with minimal clumping. The results are dramatic and will leave you looking like you’re wearing falsies, so this is your go-to mascara for a night on the town.

No 7 Intense Volume Waterproof Mascara

When it comes to budget options that won’t budge, you’ll be hard pressed to beat this one by Boots’ own brand. The generous-but-not-too-OTT brush delivers bucketloads of length, but with a more subtle, work-friendly effect. It’s not the most volumising option out there, but it’ll help you nail that ‘oh, I just woke up like this’ vibe – this would be a great beach go-to. Available at most Boots stores.

Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Waterproof

The non-waterproof version of this YSL superstar is also fantastic, but you’ll get just a little more longevity on a sticky summer’s day with this option. Given its claim to give you a false lash effect, the brush is surprisingly delicate and easy to work with, giving impressive curl, featheriness and bulk (in a good way).

Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara

The one downside of waterproof mascaras can be their tendency to border on the overly dry, however the vitamin B5-rich formula of this Chanel number means your lashes won’t feel spiky and cactus-like. The neat little plastic brush gives exemplary definition (and the sleek black packaging with the interlinked CCs always makes a make-up bag look better).
TOP TIPS:
  1. Waterproof mascaras are hard to smudge – but that also means they’re trickier to get rid of at the end of the day. Make sure you opt for an oil-based makeup remover, like M.A.C Cleanse Off Oil or Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover, to avoid hours of scrubbing at the sink.
  2. A little translucent powder very lightly dusted under the eyes and on the brow bone can help stop your mascara transferring throughout the day.
  3. If you still can’t find a mascara that will stay put, why not just get your eyelashes tinted? You can then get plenty of impact with just a quick curl and a slick of clear mascara gel.
